Heavy Afternoon Downpour Triggers Flash Floods Across Johor Bahru

Emergency teams deployed to affected roads; no casualties reported

JOHOR BAHRU A heavy downpour on Wednesday afternoon led to flash floods across several parts of Johor Bahru, inundating key roads and residential areas.

The affected locations included Jalan Kolam Air in Nong Chik, Jalan Ayer Molek, Jalan Yahya Awal, Jalan Pantai in Kampung Bakar Batu, Jalan Wong Ah Fook, and Kampung Pasir in Tampoi.

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department said it responded to distress calls beginning at 3:20 p.m., deploying teams from the Larkin Fire and Rescue Station to Jalan Kolam Air and a stretch of the Skudai Highway heading towards the city centre.

Eight personnel, dispatched in a Fire Rescue Tender and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services vehicle, reached Jalan Kolam Air at 3:33 p.m.

“Upon arrival, the team found that flash floods had occurred. All those affected had moved out of the area and the situation was under control,” the department said in a statement.

Firefighters monitored the area until floodwaters receded and confirmed the site was safe before wrapping up the operation at 4:05 p.m. No casualties were reported.

In a concurrent operation, another team of eight firefighters was sent to monitor flooding along the Skudai Highway. Arriving at 3:35 p.m., the crew confirmed that the situation was contained, with no injuries reported. The highway operation concluded at 3:50 p.m.

The department has advised motorists and residents to remain cautious and vigilant while navigating areas hit by heavy rain and flash floods.
