Gulf Air Launches Direct Bahrain–Kuala Lumpur Route Ahead of F1 Race

Inaugural flight connects the two nations as the carrier serves as title sponsor for the Malaysian race weekend

KUALA LUMPUR – Gulf Air has commenced direct flights between Bahrain and Kuala Lumpur, establishing a new direct air link between the two countries and expanding the Bahraini national carrier's Asian network.

The service was officially marked with celebrations at both ends of the route. Prior to the flight's departure from Bahrain International Airport, Gulf Air Group Chairman Khalid Taqi hosted Dato' Shazryll Zahiran, the Malaysian Ambassador to Bahrain, alongside senior aviation and trade representatives.

Upon arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the inaugural aircraft was received with an official welcoming reception. The delegation included Malaysia’s Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Haji Hasbi Habibollah, Bahrain’s Ambassador to Malaysia Dr. Waleed Khalifa Al Manea, airport authorities, senior Gulf Air executives, and media delegations from both countries.

The carrier said the new route is aimed at deepening bilateral trade, cultural exchange, and tourism by providing seamless transit between the Gulf and Southeast Asia.

The inaugural flight arrives just ahead of the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2026, held at the Sepang International Circuit. Gulf Air, serving as the race’s title sponsor, launched the direct service to facilitate travel for international motorsport fans, attendees, and operational teams travelling to Malaysia for the event.
